Thomas Kirch, Inhaber von 58,4 Prozent der ProSieben Media AG, wird seine Beteiligung in Kuerze auf die KirchMedia GmbH & Co. KGaA uebertragen und im Gegenzug Anteile an der KirchMedia in entsprechendem Wert ueber- nehmen. KirchMedia und Thomas Kirch wollen mit diesem Schritt zur Schaffung staer- kerer Synergien auf dem Fernsehmarkt in Deutschland beitragen. Die Sender der KirchMedia, SAT.1 und DSF, und die Sender der ProSieben-Gruppe, ProSieben, KABEL1 und N24, koennen durch verstaerkte Zusammenarbeit ihre Ertragspotenziale noch konsequenter ausschoepfen. "In der KirchMedia sind damit unternehmerische Beteiligungen an fuenf Free-TV-Sendern in Deutschland vereint, die sich ideal ergaenzen", so Dr. Dieter Hahn, Stellvertretender Vorsitzender der Geschaeftsfuehrung der KirchMedia. Das Bundeskartellamt sieht in der Mehrheitsbeteiligung der KirchMedia an der ProSieben Media AG keinen anmeldepflichtigen Zusammenschluss und hat dies KirchMedia bereits mitgeteilt. KirchMedia ist eines der erfolgreichsten Unternehmen für Film- und Fernseh- unterhaltung in Europa. Mit mehr als 85.000 Stunden TV-Programm verfuegt KirchMedia ueber eine der groessten und vielseitigsten Film- und TV-Biblio- theken der Welt. KirchMedia ist Mehrheitsgesellschafter an SAT.1 (59%) und DSF (100%) und haelt Beteiligungen an den Fernsehveranstaltern Mediaset (Italien) und Telecinco (Spanien). > PREMIERE WORLD kooperiert mit NMG (ots) Der Muenchener Abonnentensender PREMIERE WORLD und die Deutsche Netzmarketing GmbH (NMG) haben einen Vertrag ueber die Wei- terverbreitung der digitalen PREMIERE WORLD Programme zu rund 3 Mil- lionen privaten Haushalten, die von den in der NMG zusammengeschlossenen Kabelnetzbetreibern und Wohnungsunternehmen versorgt werden, geschlos- sen. Das gaben PREMIERE-WORLD Geschaeftsfuehrer Ferdinand Kayser und Thomas Braun, Vorsitzender des Beirates der NMG, bekannt. Der bis zum Jahr 2009 gueltige Vertrag umfasst die Nutzung von bis zu 6 Ka- belkanaelen. In Ergaenzung zu seinen digitalen Programmpaketen wird PREMIERE WORLD seinen Abonnenten auch programmbegleitende und -unterstuetzende Abrufdienste anbieten. In weiterfuehrenden Verhandlungen mit den einzelnen Netzbetreibern soll ausserdem ein direkter Internetzugang realisiert werden. Die Kabelnetzbe- treiber der NMG koennen ueber eine eigene technische Plattform und Decoder das PREMIERE WORLD Angebot weiterverbreiten. Die NMG ist ein Zusammenschluss namhafter Betreiber von Breitbandkabel- netzen sowie des GdW Bundesverband Deutscher Wohnungsunternehmen e.V., der von dem Verband Privater Kabelnetzbetreiber e. V. ANGA initiiert ist. Ferdinand Kayser: "Der heute geschlossene Vertrag ist ein wesentlicher Schritt zur Erhoehung der technischen Reichweite von PREMIERE WORLD. Aufgrund ihrer Kundennaehe und ihrer technischen Kompetenz sind die in der NMG zusammengeschlossenen Kabelnetzbetreiber wichtige Kooperationspartner fuer uns. Mit ihnen zusammen koennen wir nun das gesamte Potential dieser Netze fuer PREMIERE WORLD erschliessen." Mit dem Vertrag verpflichtet sich PREMIERE WORLD zur Zahlung reichweiten- und abonnentenabhaengiger Entgelte fuer die Weiterverbreitung von PREMIERE WORLD auf den Netzebenen 3 und 4 sowie eines einmaligen Investitionskosten- zuschusses fuer die Aufruestung der Netzebene 3 zum Empfang von PREMIERE WORLD. Der Vertrag steht noch unter dem Vorbehalt der Zustimmung der entsprechen- den Gremien der Vertragsparteien. New developments have been announced which could seriously increase the uptake of ONdigital, against its rival Sky Digital. Live football is now the main selling point for ONdigital, it promotes itself as offering football 'every night of the week'. ONdigital has re- cently bought the rights to the German Bundesliga coverage in the United Kingdom, which can be received on channel 99 - this will also include co- verage of the four German teams in the UEFA Champions League. The UK supermarket chain Sainsburys is to sell prepaid ONdigital systems, this will consist of one year viewing cards to ONdigital being sold at an upfront charge. This may equal in an actual free box offer, unlike its cur- rent 'free' offer - where you no longer own the box, when you cancel your subscription. Inside reports reveal that ONdigital are interested in launching 'on satel- lite' with a Eutelsat link-up. The Carlton Cinema (ONdigital) film channel was broadcasting free-to-air on Hot Bird at 13 degrees east this week, this was believed to be a test signal for future broadcasts. We predict ONdigital to launch a satellite service on HotBird to rival Sky Digital. ONdigital would offer a service encrypted in Viaccess or Media- guard, the full package of 30 channels to British viewers and a sized down package of ONdigital channels, like Carlton World, Carlton Cinema and Select for the copyright cleared European market. > ONdigital likely to offer free PC (SatEuropa) ONdigital has revealed its plans to offer internet access to its subscribers and a range of homeshopping and interactive entertain- ment services. It is thought that these services will be on offer by the year 2000, including at first e-mail facilities, followed by home banking and shopping services. This service will rival the Sky Digital interactive offerings of the soon to be launched 'Open'. ONdigital are to include a last minute travel booking feature and a live auctioning service. An additional gaming channel is to be added, which will include special prize competitions. ONdigital chief executive commented "ONdigital will offer a wide range of interactive services to its subscribers. Unlike satellite, we have also de- cided to include the opportunity of access to the internet to our custo- mers through their televisions." Reports carried by SatEuropa in August, of a rumoured free PC, offer true possibilities "If recent industry rumours ring true, Sky Digital could be battled with ONdigital's link-up with British Telecom. Information from a good source reveals, as British Telecom are getting actively involved with the digital terrestrial platform ONdigital, an offer of a free Personal Computer may become reality. This is how it would work, the end-user would pay ONdigital an annual fee of £400 (£25/month) and would receive a free computer to link to the built-in modem of their ONdigital set-top box. As with the free ONdigital box offer, which has recently hit the high street stores, the offer of a free computer would remain until you decide to cancel your subscription". > ABSat: record subscription turnover (SatEuropa) The French pay-TV operator ABSat has announced that 350.000 households have signed-up to the ABSat thematic channel options, this is made up of 312.000 via satellite and 38,000 via cable. Subscriptions have increased by 25.000 in comparison with the figures of June 30th 1999 - when ABSat had 288.000 subscribers via satellite and 37,000 via cable. ABSat operates 18 thematic television channels, which can be received on Hot Bird at 13 degrees east, as well as multi-plexes on Astra at 19.2 de- grees east and Eutelsat W2 at 16 degrees east. ABSat operate France's leading cable and satellite entertainment channel RTL 9, as well as AB1 (comedy and drama), RFM-TV (pop videos), La Chaine Historie (history), AB Moteurs (motoring), Animaux (wildlife), Escales (travel) and the most ex- plicit hardcore adult channel XXL. The programmes of ABSat are distributed through cable and satellite pay-TV services in France, Belgium and Switzerland. The owners of ABSat, Groupe AB produces and distributes television programming, which is sold to broad- casters in France and world-wide. This comes as just part of the surging satellite reception market in Fran- ce, between June 1998 and June 1999 alone, the figure of households re- ceiving television via satellite has risen by 69 percent to 3.5 million. During this period, cable television has been beaten by satellite uptake, with cable subscriptions rising by only 16 percent to 2.8 million. > 24 hour football channel to launch (SatEuropa) The increase in football coverage has only just begun, plans have been announced to broadcast the world's first 24-hour international football television channel. The International Football Channel (IFC) is the end result of negotiations with Bedford Communications and Media Content. Latin America will see the first launch of the channel on the 15th Decem- ber, European viewers can expect to watch the channel by May 2000. Outreach to Africa and Asia is expected by the end of 2001. As with many international broadcasters, such as CNN and MTV, programmes will vary from region to region. Such programmes as the World Cup or popular NBA basket- ball coverage will be screened across the whole network. IFC will be offered to cable and satellite TV viewers as part of the basic package, instead of joining with such channels as Sky Sports, or as a stand-alone premium channel.
