The new Infos from dvb98 00.0068.2 05.08.98

a change within dvb98 00.0068.2 I like:

-25.7.1998 (version 00.0068.2)
Check for extended RAM on bootup
extended RAM used for Teletext-Pages (as many as you want....)

-> with 2MB RAM in your box, it is possible to store up to 977 teletext pages

Some interresting measurements are possible within dvb 0068.4:

-28.7.1998 (version 00.0068.4)
additional info in video-mpeg menu (thanx to martin w.)

-> with this Version one can see which video data rate is used by the broadcaster! The frame rate per second is also visble. All stations I monitored show constantly 25 fps. But within NTSC signals this may change.

possible using MPEG broadcast is:

23.976 fps 3-2 pulldown NTSC,
24 fps Kinofilme,
25 fps PAL/SECAM oder 625/60 video,
29.97 fps NTSC,
30 fps drop-frame NTSC oder component

Be aware:

the values shown in the Video MPEG menue are not always correct if you change channels
To show the correct values please press ok button of the remote control once if you change stations (after the picture is visible again).

Within coded stations, for which you have no valid card, the values shown are normally meaningless.

The bit rate utilized for a video program can be selected freely
depending on the quality requirements. Typical bit rates are:

2 Mbit/s: approx. VHS quality, suitable for simple signals like comics
4-6 Mbit/s: approx. PAL quality (e.g., for talk shows)
8-9 Mbit/s: better than D2MAC and PAL+, comparable to studio production quality (e.g., for cinema films and sport events)
15 MBit/s: broadcasts used for retransmission or making of copies
>15 Mbit/s: various levels of HDTV quality

Think of no chance to get better results using a high transmission rate if the film which should be transmitted has bad quality.
Differences between 6-8 und 15 MBit/s can normaly only be seen if you watch studio productions or live events transmitted via good equipment.
